Flex Aero - 3D Vista look
Thursday, 06 March 2008
flexaero.jpg

Here's a little example how easy it is to combine classical GUI elements like the TitleWindow component and Papervision3D to get eye-candy effect. The effect is very similar to the Microsoft Window Vista Aero style. You can also select a window to focus it after toggling into 3D. Source code and video are available... enjoy!

Hi ole,

yes you're right. This is a strange result of the ImageSnapshot method from Flex 3 library. Maybe it wouldn't appear by drawing the "snapshot" of the component using the native BitmapData.draw method.

Hi vinoth,

thanks for the feedback. This is done on purpose. We just provide our sources to keep the filesize at a minimum. I'll post the links of the used libraries in our future articles.

Hi OLE,

sorry for the delay but I just tried to understand what could be wrong. Do you use a Flex 3 beta version or an older version of Papervision?

Hi Marcel,

a typical practice on Flex Builder plugin is the usage of "linked libraries". This is more effective instead of copying the libraries over and over again into the projects' folders. Not only that many visitors already got Papervision3D or other 3rd party libraries on their systems, I also prefer to keep the filesize of downloads as slim as possible. As already mentioned above I'll include links to the 3rd party libraries in future articles and I did in the 2 latest ones.

If you still got problems with this topic please feel free to contact me.
