New Flash Lite project, codename: FLiME
Wednesday, 10 January 2007

We're currently working on a new project for an extension of Flash Lite for Windows-based Pocket PCs. It'll extend the functionalites of Flash Lite Player 2.x with access to the operating system. The player is very restricted in it's way to operate on such a mobile device but with FLiME developers should be able to do basic file operations (create, save, delete) and for sure BROWSE with the standard system dialogs.

Some people might think it'd be a security vulnerability... it's not! Because we only provide the ability to prompt the user to select a file. Only if the user selects a file, the path and details of this specific file is available for the Flash Lite player.

It's still in alpha state but we can already provide some screenshots of our sample application built on Flash Lite 2.1.

NOTE: FLiME is completely frozen. More information?

This is a first sample application. The memory usage of the player is polled by an interval. While FLiME operates the system wait cursor is displayed. After clicking of the the 2 "dialog"-buttons a system file-dialog comes up. When the user selects a file or hits the cancel-button of the dialog the screen returns to the Flash Lite player application. The selected image is loaded into Flash when the "load file"-button is clicked.

Current features

  • FileOpen-dialog
  • FilePreview-dialog
  • FileDeletion
  • Communication with Flash Lite player via XML or text files
